Bill's Accomplishments

 Since 2017, Bill is proud of the accomplishments of the Council through strong leadership and good governance. As a champion for this community, Bill’s passion and vision has contributed to making Strathcona County one of Canada’s most livable communities. 

Economic Prosperity

  •  Strathcona County remains one of the lowest taxes communities in Alberta with the highest level of services
  • Over the past eight years, the cumulative tax rate has remained below inflation while implementing a culture and recreation levy to building and maintain infrastructure 
  • Over $45 billion invested in Alberta’s Industrial Heartland over the past 25 years
  • Varma announces $300 million waste to energy complex to open by 2028
  • County unveils new tourism initiative in 2025 called Go Strathco

Community Satisfaction

  • Over 95% of our citizens rate Strathcona County as a good or very good place to live
  • 95% of our citizens believe the community is a safe place to live
  • 85% of citizens are satisfied with the county’s infrastructure
  • 82% of citizens are satisfied with the services provided in the county

An Award Winning Community

  • Strathcona County is leading the way in community development and governance
  • In 2024 the county was named as one of Canada’s Best Employers by Forbes magazine
  • In 2025 the county was named one of Alberta’s top 85 employers by the editors of Canada’s Top 100 Employers

Building New Communities

 

  • Over the past eight years, Bill has championed a number of new growth initiatives as Council witnessed the population grow to over 100,000.
  • Housing has expanded as several new communities have developed and existing growth nodes are nearing completion:

Building Community Infrastructure

Bill believes vibrant communities are places that create infrastructure which attracts people who who want to make this their home. He believes that Strathcona County is one of Alberta’s finest communities to live, work and play because we have focused on building a wide variety of cultural and recreational assets. 


Recent projects in develop and design include:


  • The Pointe Agricultural Event Centre - set to open in the fall of 2025
  • Multi-purpose Indoor Field House - currently in design
  • An Ice Complex in partnership with private developers and the county under consideration
  • A Seniors Hub - in planning stages
  • Festival Place Upgrades - recently completed
  • Expansion of Multi-use Trail Network
  • Edmonton-Strathcona County Foot Bridge - expected completion in 2025
